Raised To Be Atheist; But Experienced A Miracle
Susan Senko emailed me her miracle story in August 2021. Raised in an atheist household, she sought after God and God did not hide from her.
Here is her miracle story…
I was raised in a atheist household – but I didn’t like that my parents told me there was no God when I asked about Him at about the age of 4. However, that was my home and I adopted my parent’s beliefs and became an atheist as well.
Later on, I started reading Edgar Cayce, and he was a Presbyterian Sunday School teacher that was also a psychic and prophet. His work – successful in healing thousands of people, was well documented, and he said, that God was real, and what’s more, so was Jesus. I shifted my beliefs to agnosticism – something was out there, but maybe not the “Bible” God.
When I was in my early 20’s, I read an ad in a magazine advertising that the author, Pearl S. Buck, had written a book on the Bible that was for sale. I thought to myself, ‘well, if I was ever going to read the Bible, I would want to read the actual Bible and not someone’s account of it. ‘
A couple of days later, I was helping a friend pack to move, and while emptying a bookshelf into a box, he placed a copy of ‘The Living Bible’ right into my hand. “Hey, I was just thinking of reading this!” I exclaimed, and he insisted I take it. I didn’t want to take his Bible, but he insisted, so I took it home.
Revelations was a book that I had heard of as a child – the end of the world – the idea had fascinated me from early childhood, so I dove in and started reading it. Coming to Rev 3:20 – Jesus says
‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock and if anyone hears my voice, I will come in and dine with him and together – we will rejoice.”
Well in my school days, when they still read Scripture at the start of the day, I remember that Jesus said He is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow – so I said “OK Jesus, I am just going to put my pride and my disbelief aside for a moment, and ask you to come into my life. Because if you are really real, then I want to be a part of it.” Nothing happened – I read a bit more, then went on with the day.
It seems it was several days later, while I was putting on my make up for the day in front of my bedroom mirror, that an extraordinary event occurred. All of a sudden, it was like someone opened up the gates of heaven right in my apartment – the room filled with this incredible music – like I had never heard before or since, and I was filled with inexpressible joy! I could see behind my right shoulder the parapet of a castle – made out of semi opaque stones that were lit from within and surrounded by mists and clouds that also emitted their own light and the music seemed to be coming from there! Looking in the mirror, I saw that I was pinching my arm to make sure the event was really happening – it was! I was definitely awake – nothing like this had ever happened to me – had never had to pinch myself for a ‘reality check’ before. There was a huge smile on my face as I did this – I saw it in the mirror.
After awhile, the music faded away along with the vision of the parapet, but the joy remained and I was on something like a ‘holy spirit high’ for the next three months. I read that Bible from cover to cover and back again and again over the years, which I am still doing to this day.
There have been one or two dark times in my life, where that atheism rears it’s head again and tries to tell me that there is no God. When I think back and remember that experience in front of the mirror that day, I know that, yes, there is a God, no matter what. I think that may be why He gave me that experience, b/c He knew I would need it from time to time.
Many other wonderful things have happened over the years that continue to prove the fact of God’s existence to me, and that Jesus is His wonderful Son and our Saviour, and I am grateful for all of it. That first experience though, was a miracle, a supernatural happening where our Lord answered my THOUGHTS in giving me a Bible, and showing me He is real. What a God. I just adore Him!
If you have never thought of inviting Jesus into your life – I would encourage you to also ‘put aside’ your pride and disbelief or whatever is holding you back, and ask Him to come into your life. You will never be the same!
Hope this is a story that helps someone!
Best wishes,
Susan Senko
